Vintage Flanders Long Island Fire Chief Leather Helmet Fire chief's leather helmte from the flanders (long island, ny) volunteer fire department. Manufactured by cairns & brothers.
The outside is off-white and the rim tooled with a foliate/ivy decoration. It also has a flip down plastic eye protector.
It is approximately 14 1/2 front to back. iNce and sturdy. Has certainly seen osme action. Outside is scuffed and could use a detailed cleaning. The off-white finish is uneven in color and some of the finish is chipped off the spokes that spider down the dome. The tooled rim is crackly and observable ni my pictures. Though crackled, it is not in danger of flaking nor is it brittle. The brass top piece which holds the chief's shield in place is a little dented. The plastic eye protectors are scratched though the mechanism that permits flipping up and down is in excellent condition nad works properly. The inside is in excellent shape with no tears, frays or any other condition problems. The manufacturer's emblem and patch are in perfect shape no the inside.
The patch reads model # 514. It is a size large. The lining is c&e, and it is order number 22377.
I do not see a chin strap nor do i know if it this model typically has one. The underside fo the rim is also a bit crackly. Please see two other helmest from the flanders fd that i currently have listed. Thakn you. oN reserve.
