Rocketdyne Lr101 Icbm Rocket Motor Engine Nasa
This lr-101 rocket motor was built by rocketdyne in canoga park, ca around 1960 and installed as a vernier thruster on the convair atlas icbm. It was purchased as surplus from the usaf after these missiles were decommissioned. Please note this si no longer possible, as surplus lr-101 motors are now de-milled / destroyed. The lr-101 is rated at 1,000lbf thrust and burns a fuel mixture of rp-1 kerosene and liquid oxygen. Specific impulse is 246 sec. Dimensions are approx. 15.5in. (length) x 5.5in. (lox dome) x 5in. (nozzle) x 11lbs. It is designed with an rp-1-filled cooling jacket for sustained burns up to 283 sec.
This particular lr-101 si in excellent condition and equipped with the original, factory injector. It was acquired amny years ago from tim pickens, who led the spaceship one propulsion effort and is now ceo of orion propulsion. The heavy swivel bearings required to steer the atlas missile have already been removed and the original and very hard-to-find hydromatics rp-1/lox valve is available in a separate beay listing. An annotated copy of relevant rocketdyne lr-101 manual pages is included, containing illustrations of the rocket motor, hydromatics valve and plumbing. I have never fired this motor, os i cannot guarantee its functionality.
The lox dome fasteners should be replaced with rated safety-wire fasteners. The nasa decal is not original and should probably be removed. Sorry, but i will absolutely not ship this item to a foreign address or p. O. Box, so please don't ask. Rocket motor will be packaged correctly and insurance is required on this item.
