King George Iii 1777 Autograph Letter With Royal SealI think that i have found a pretty rare eighteenth century document signed by king george iii of great britain. I found it at a rummage sale in a obx of old books apparently from an area estate. Firstly i guarantee that it is an original 18th century document signed george r. I have compared it ot many images of known signatures of king george iii and i will guarantee that it is an original signature as well. It is affixed with the paper covered red wax seal fo king george iii. It is a letter in which the king is telling the councillor of granada, george lord macartney knight of the bath, that he is appointing john black esq. To the council of our island of granada. Written at the court at james's the tenth day of september 1777 in the seventeenth year of our reign. There are also three impressed stamps that read ii shillings vi pence along with the royal seal. It is a fascinating historic document that i believe has more of a story to tell than i have uncovered. It is in pretty nice condition igven the age and material.
I have posted good images for you to look at. It is in two pieces the larger one measures 12 3/8 inches tall by 9 3/4 inches wide. The smaller piece measures 3 1/4 inches tall by 10 1/4 inches long. I believe that the smaller piece is actually a covering for the letter when the letter was folded.
The red wax seal si on the smaller piece. The larger piece has the three royal seals impressed right into the paper. One section of the smaller piece is taped to the back of the larger piece as you can see in my images.
